Alby flies below sea level. Take off 13:09 from California City, CA. Low save near Inyokern airport at 471 feet AGL. One distant tiny CU on the Sierras gave me hope for improving conditions. Crossed the Owens Valley and made another relatively low save on the Inyo mountains, gaining glide for below sea level 50nm away. Getting late and shadey I wasn't able to climb over Telescope Peak which killed any chance of making Jean, NV to continue Alby's odyssey. With nearly 10,000 feet over the airport, I circled down 200 feet below sea level to Furnace Creek at the bottom of Death Valley at 18:30. I landed in an oasis and had a $65 wonderful steak dinner with greek salad and Key Lime pie. With Cindy from Caracole Soaring as crew.
