Great clouds down the central Sierra with ~ 18k' bases, weakening a little past Mammoth. Turned Mount Whitney and crossed to the Inyos/Whites, then got out of the main line of lift when I pushed up to Mina (mistake #1, given the time of day). Then, instead of returning to the main line of lift, I cut the corner which was slower (mistake #2), though I did get up to 17k' in route. Getting back to the main cloud line low at 13k' before I found lift, I made a second climb to 17k' that I probably should have used to start toward Truckee -- 2000' below glide and 56 miles out (about a 40:1) I could have likely gained that extra altitude as I had in the two previous days (mistake #3). Instead I went to the Pine Nuts to climb there -- but the clouds were exhausted. I ended up landing in Carson City, but too late for an aero tow an TG drove down with my trailer (thanks Ramy!).

The main lessons -- be conservative as the day weakens and be more confident about my final glide with Mc = 0 when there are intermediate landing options (as there were this time -- I could have diverted to Minden or Carson if the glide was coming up short). Next I'll compare U2 and 5H's glides from the area around the top of my last climb -- what was there glide ratio from there?

A fun fight, but disappointing not to make it back!
