Mediocre at best kind of a day, mostly blue. Was the sniffer for the sports class contest. Lift was doable but not real strong or high while in the Palomino Valley. First decent lift I hit was by the north end of the Pinenuts which is usually the case, although there was at times some persistent and strong sink, so I spent far too much time climbing. Just past the south end of the Pinenuts I finally reached the cus. Only problem was they started ODing and blowing up just as I got there, and nothing was working, so I turned around before I got in over my head. At this point, also some alto stratus and cirrus started showing up so I switched my sights towards making it home and avoiding the dreaded back to back landout. The way home wasn't too bad, still had some areas of strong sink, but started plenty high that it wasn't much of a problem. About an hour after I landed it was broken-overcast cirrus, so turning around early proved wise.
