Varied day, some awesome air, some crappy air. First hour or so I headed NW, hoping to make Mt Lassen. There were sparse cus with mediocre lift under them until about Susanville. Past Susanville it went blue and the air was either dead or sinky. I eventually turned around. On the way back once I got to Susanville conditions just turned on and it was great. I was running fast, dolphining barely losing altitude and only stopping for total boomers and that kept on until about Truckee. I ended up flying along the west shore of Lake Tahoe which was quite scenic but I really did that due to a fire TFR along the Tahoe Rim Trail on the east side of the lake. The air wasn't quite as good there, but it wasn't bad either. Conditions started heading south around South Lake Tahoe airport. Good looking clouds there all ended up dead and before you know it, all the clouds were flat lining into a nasty dark stratus layer and I was getting drizzled on. I kept going further past Alpine County Airport where the clouds looked better, but again didn't deliver. I searched around just east of Alpine County Airport with little success before starting to head towards Minden for a possible landout. By around Minden, the sun was starting to shine again and I used some weak lift to get me a bit higher so I can glide further north where it looked better. Eventually I did find some good lift that took me plenty high by Carson City and the rest of the way home was cake.
