The SkySight forecast predicted a mostly blue day with wave from Olancha in the south to Minden in the north, strengthening as the day went on. We launched under power before sunrise heading north towards Olancha where we expected to encounter wave conditions. Instead we had to continue farther north until we found wave at ridge-top level of 14,500 feet near Mount Whitney. After reaching the northern end of the R-2508 complex, we turned south because of an expected half hour delay in getting our block altitude clearance from Oakland Center. Returning north we exited the complex and reached Crowley Lake. This ended our first leg which was shortened by our long powered segment and slowed by delays in getting our clearance. We then headed south with the remaining five legs increasing in distance and for the last four legs, producing higher ground speed. We landed 20 minutes after sunset. Blue conditions prevailed for the entire flight except for one lenticular.
The glider is equipped with FAA approved navigation and strobe lights.
