Great flight that totally exceeded my expectations. There was ridge, thermals and wave, all your food groups. Day was forecast for 6k agl thermals with some high overcast and moderate westerly winds. At the beginning of the day, the high overcast was thick and choked out the sun, but the westerly winds were really kicking up by noon, so I decided to go to the far side of the Dog Skins and ridge soar for a while. Ridge soared for an hour or so (where the damn EW micro logger took almost an hour to get a GPS signal lock). I noticed that further north towards Honey Lake there were lennies and the high cloud layer was nearly clear. Eventually I caught a surprisingly good thermal at the north end of the Dog Skins that took me into some patchy blue wave and started heading NW. I fell out of the wave pretty quick and was fighting a pretty strong headwind and flew moderate at best broken up blue thermals from 8k-12k in 20 knot NW winds to reach Susanville which was somewhat difficult. After rounding Susanville the headwind turned into a tailwind and it got better as the high layer was clearing everywhere and there were beautiful lennies to the south. I eventually made contact with wave by Stead and was off to the races. The rest of the flight was doing 100 knots in wave around 16k to a bit south of Minden. Damn fun, but I was shivering from the cold as I really didn't suit up for wave. Eventually rounded State Line Peak as my last turnpoint and headed back to Air Sailing around 18:00 where the air was getting really choppy. The air got so choppy in fact, that a good bump popped and extended my landing gear out of the detent, so I decided to slow down and thus overshoot by over 1000'. What a day!
