Good flight that was a great way to spend 4th of July. Moderately strong SW winds aloft. High bases almost into the flight levels with strong lift in them. Cus were somewhat sparse and in "patches" with the rest blue and I mostly followed the cus for the day occasionally crossing sinky blue holes. Got some damn good lift early on the Virginia range. Got just a bit low over Dayton Valley, but found good lift on the other side just past Rawe Peak. Halfway through running the Pinenuts, it was looking like more cus ESE than S, so cut across SE towards Hawthorne. At Hawthorne I was starting to think about doing a Tonopah out and back, but just E past Hawthorne it got totally blue, so decided to follow the clouds south instead to Basalt. There was about 15 miles of blue going to Basalt, but at the end were a few cu that indeed delivered just N of Boundary Peak. Coming home was pretty easy with a bit of help from a tailwind and starting a long, high final glide by Schurz. Final glide had cu most of the way and the 30 something to one glide turned out to be way conservative and I was really hauling ass even more than usual the last 30 miles.
