Varied day ranging from sinking and over developed to boomers over 10 knots. Somewhat frustrating as everywhere I wanted to go ended up having some impediment in my way. My initial hope was to launch early, go east to Elko and back as the usual southern routes were forecasted to really blow up and I've been meaning to do that task for a while. There was too many thick alto clouds east that didn't burn off through the morning, so scratched that and decided to go north, hopefully nicking Oregon. When I released at noon it was mostly blue and mediocre at best. I deviated west to connect with the clouds just N of Frenchman's Lake and than it good pretty good. Left the Diamond Mountains and crossed right over Susanville and it was still pretty good. I initially wanted to go via the Warner Mountains but there was a big fire there and I didn't know what the TFR situation was so followed clouds NW instead. Unfortunately those clouds were mostly lying and sinking and before you know it I got low and turned around while I still had Likely well within glide range and decided to abandon task. At that point there was also lots of blow up by Adin and Spaulding so coming back I did get rained on a bit and hit some bad sink at times. Around 15:30 it finally got good with bases rising to 15k and strong lift under them. I ended up going E to Lovelock and back as my final turnpoint and the air there was pretty good.
