Good day that was quite a bit better than I expected. I expected blue but we got some cus damn near into the flight levels. SW winds aloft of 15-25 knots. Lift was pretty strong, but pretty torn up. I had to do several thermals practically circling on knife edge to stay in the core. I launched with 10 knots or so of E wind coming from Pyramid Lake, but by release height of just under 6000' it was already westerly. Found something mediocre off of tow but due to my impatience with the weak climb and the W winds aloft I decided to try the W face of the Dogskins where I found a nice climb up to 12k and I was off. The Virginia range was hit and miss, it was still blue and there were some 3-4 knotters vaguely marked by haze domes (or should I say smoke domes?) but also lots of hard to shake sink. Shortly S of the Gigafactory, moisture started to condense into clouds and conditions got progressively better. There was still areas of blue but where there was clouds although the lift was inconsistent and hard to work, you occasionally hit big climbs over 6 knots. Was initially hoping to go to Mina but it was in the blue so I decided to just turn a bit past Mt. Grant. Next headed to Mt Patterson due to the nice cus along the way. I underestimated how good the conditions were and made that my last turn point rounding around 15:30 aiming for about a 17:00 arrival back at ASI. I found a climb shortly after rounding Patterson that took me to over 17k. This turned out to be a 100 mile final glide at over 100 knots as the first 50 miles or so I only lost a few thousand feet. The second half of the final glide was running at 120 knots with full negative flaps and the MacCready way way up just to bring her down and even though it was blue again by that point further N, there was still plenty of lift and I ended up making it back before 16:30.
