Day Two at 1-26 Championships. Thanks Mike Carris for letting me fly your ship!
It was a fun day soaring convergences and streets. It got more exciting than it was worth when a thunderstorm started developing from the overdeveloped convergence line above Moriarty airport. In 12 minutes, I went from a 1 knot thermal to climbing at 30 knots. I saw the Cambridge 302 wrap around the dial all the way around, back to zero. At that point all I wanted was to be back on the ground *now* because I realized that the formally ODed overcast deck above was in fact a building, embedded thunderstorm. At that point, I pulled the brakes out and got the heck away. 10 minutes later on the ground, the sky exploded into a massive thunderstorm.
A humbling experience, that's for sure. This was not a case of trying something out for kicks; this one caught me by surprise.Pilot
