Chickened out on my task after climbing above Trail Ridge Road and looking out into North Park, which I had intended to cross to the NW side to Bridger Peak, my first TP. Of course I can make excuses (the last three thermals were poor, the cloud base was still low - just over 15k, the Granby Valley was a mess (bases looked to be below 12k), and there was a towering cumulus on the far side of North Park which had me worried about over-development and storms later in the day (it was only 12:30 pm at the time). In hindsight there is no doubt in my mind that it would have worked. The west side of the divide looked good all day even though it was hazy and cloud bases were never as high as I had expected. The only real rain showers were south of I70 on the east side. But how to judge this early afternoon when you just set out? Anyway, I had a nice flight east of the divide with a small excursion into South Park. Tried to make an "eastern triangle" more or less within glide to Boulder. Didn't quite work as well as I wanted. I need to consider my resolve, especially when I already had a prearranged retrieve tow-pilot to get me from wherever, just in case. Thanks, Gary! Looking at the flight trace: too much wandering around - which I attribute to not sticking to a task; I need a task to make me focus.
