Bit of a disappointing day. Was hoping to catch some wave, but never did and settled on some ridge flying. Spent 3 hours trying to find the wave by the Dogskins, Tule Peak, Fred's Mountain and Petersen Mountain without much luck. There were lots of cu-ish clouds which I wasn't quite sure whether they were honest to goodness cumulus, fractocumulus, rotors or frontal lift. I did manage to get to 13k twice which was well above the base of the clouds in what was either rotor or wave but the lift was so irregular, weak and patchy I never managed to hold onto it long enough to really get high and above the clouds into the wave that was presumably there. In the first half of the flight the winds were more SSW as opposed to a more favorable SW or WSW, the winds didn't really pick up until 14:00 and by that point I have a feeling the convection was really interfering with the wave formation. The second half of the flight the winds became stronger at 25-35 knots at the altitudes I was flying and a bit more westerly but there wasn't any visible hint of wave. I eventually gave up and did 3 ridge runs of Tule Peak-Pond Peak and back before landing. Later in the day there were a bit of showers in the vicinity and what looked like a fire in the distance by Rawe Peak. Landed with surface winds of 10-20 knots SW with occasional blowing sand.
