Fun day that pleasantly surprised me how strong it turned out to be. Launched just shy of 13:00 and conditions were plenty ripe, I could have probably launched a half hour earlier. It was blue the first 50 miles but there was decent climbs in the blue. I hit the first cu over Rawe Peak and it got stronger and higher from there. Once leaving the S end of the Pinenuts the clouds formed a somewhat narrow but great line of cu that was like a yellow brick road leading me to Lee Vining and I turned up the MacCready knob way up to 6 knots. Got a great climb right off the peak of Mt Patterson. After rounding Lee Vining the next 70 miles was an ultra fast, ultra flat dolphin run. Once hitting the valley north of Wellington it gradually blued, lowered and weakened up. I ended up gradually getting lower as I glided across the Dayton valley, I-80 and into Palomino Valley. I wanted to stretch it for a bit more km and ended up finding a good climb a few miles SE of State Line Peak that took me up from under 9k to 13.6k. I used that remaining altitude to run to Herlong and back easily. It was about 17:30 at this point and the convection was noticeably dying and the air got real smooth after that last climb. Inadvertently I stumbled into some weak wave that gave about 2-3 knots on the netto which made sense as the Air Glide was telling me I was in 25+ knot SW winds and my crab angle was a good confirmation of that. I flew parallel to the Diamond Mtns. and used the weak wave to fly my final glide a bit faster and made it back right at 18:00.
