Attempted a 300 km flight today. Start B > Flying Dutchman > Villa Char Mar > Start B. Initial leg went smoothly, but ceilings stayed around 3,500'. Second leg was very challenging. Lift got very soft and skies over developed. I got low near Leesburg (missed dropping into the class D airspace by 68')) ... but managed to climb back to altitude and continue south. The lift remained soft all the way to Gore ... but the skies started to get much higher. South of Gore, I picked up a new cloud street and was able to climb to approx. 6,000' for the final run down to Villa Char Mar. After my final turn towards ZPH, I was able climb again to 6,000'+ and final glide back to Start B. I was averaging over 60 mph at the first turn then lost all my speed on the second leg (all at Leesburg). Great flight overall.
