Declared and completed a 750 km task via three turn points (Start/Finish at Colorado University; TP1: Del Norte; TP2: Poudre; TP3: Bergen Peak). Great flying with CX and BC. Very windy at the start. First leg was still very blue and my line was anything but direct, winding along from cloud to cloud to Salida. From there strong conditions until the clouds stopped 20 miles before Del Norte. Climbed up, then sleigh ride to Del Norte and back under the clouds with no lift whatsoever.... Coming back north through South Park strong lift and even stronger sink alternated. Past Evans a big blue hole all the way to Estes Park. Flew along the spine of the divide in the blue and took some weak lift - this was probably my slowest section of the flight. Made the Poudre turnpoint and climbed under the last cloud to 17,800 before once again jumping into the blue. Some clouds ahead dissolved and I wasn't sure whether I would make it to TP3. Then a 9-knot climb above Thorodin Mountain (The west side of Thorodin is perfectly situated to capture the late afternoon sun.) From there an easy glide to TP3 and back to CU where I finished with some altitude to spare. Continued past Longmont and came back to land. Nice conditions once the clouds got going. Some virga along the Sangre de Cristos but fortunately no thunderstorm in sight the whole day. Max altitude 17,800.
