Great to be soaring this late in the season. Lower cloud bases made keeping good airports (and sometimes any airport) within gliding distance a priority and resulted in less than optimal course. There were some good climbs but I couldn't reliably figure out where to find them, so I took a lot of weak ones to stay above the mountains. Later smoke made it hard to pick a line and a couple times I made big course changes when I got closer to a line that that looked decent in the haze but not so good when I got closer. The day ended earlier than I expected, and I was glad to be able to close my triangle, though it meant taking some very weak climbs.
