Surprisingly decent fall day and an overdue deflowering of my personal OLC 2021 season. Was some strange yet fun mix of weak/broken up thermals, decent thermals and patchy wave. Fairly strong westerly winds between 10-25 knots below 12k. Higher up winds reached a bit over 30 knots where I hit the patchy wave. I launched a bit past 13:00 right into decent lift. First I rounded Sandia Airpark. For the next half hour it was pretty crappy as I was working sub 2 knotters trying to stay above 9k while getting knocked down with good sink. Shortly before 15:00 it picked up considerably. I next rounded Mountainair. I was thinking about triangle points and wanted to round Cline's Corners, but I pussed out as that was 20 miles downwind of Moriarty with a 20 knot headwind and nowhere to land in between and wasn't able to stay above 12k like I'd hoped so turned around somewhere between Wagonwheel and Cline's. It still wasn't even 16:00 so decided to go to Sandia Airpark again next. I ended up hitting a fair bit of sink and shortly before I got there I turned around while I still had Moriarty comfortably made. Luckily I found a nice climb shortly after turning around that got me up to over 13k where it seemed like the convection was interleaved with patchy wave for the rest of the flight. I then turned around to keep going forward and gradually upped my goal from Sandia Airpark to South Mountain to my rental house to the Sandia Park Post Office where I turned around for an easy 30:1 final glide with a nice tailwind. Good times!
