Weather today was expected to support a XC flight so we planned a lead/follow practice with GB. Took off a little later than we wanted but got underway fairly rapidly. Assigned task, Start A, Avon Park, Myakka Head, Grass Roots and Finish. Leg to Avon Park was pretty easy until we got down south. Some haze made the climbs a little weaker and Myakka Head is always a weak area due to its proximity to the Gulf. We slowed down on the northbound leg because the clouds looked very broken up and we wanted to stay high. There was also a large blue hole on the first 1/3 of the leg north. We had to deviate NNW to stay connected to the clouds.
Airspace issues by the Tampa Class B could have caused us more problems if we weren't high. This was not a day to push hard. We hadn't flown in a month and wanted a low stress flight. A climb right before Grass Roots got to final glide and a nice trip home. Good to fly with you today Glennnnnnnn. OK MR YOUNGBLOOD! HERE IS YOU BLOODY TRIANGLE AND OUR FIRST 300K FLIGHT OF THE YEAR.
