Today's spring flight had every form of lift: initial climb in rotor, then connected to laminar wave flow on my first leg north past Longs Peak and Lookout Mountain. (Even had to slow down and pull the spoilers out twice to stay below 18,000...) As the wave weakened a convergence line set up and was fairly easy to follow past Mount Evans towards Bailey. High clouds began to diminish as the day wore on allowing for the development of good thermals of varying strengths. Past mid afternoon a beautiful convergence induced line of thermals all the way to the Colorado Wyoming border and from there a fast run back along the same line all the way back to Bailey. I only stopped ahead of major blue gaps to top up my altitude. Then late afternoon easterly upslope winds along the lower foothills made it hard to come down - there was lift everywhere above the foothills. Finally even a bit of ridge lift along the hogback. A true showcase of what the Colorado Front Range can deliver in early April. I got stuck once on my way north when I followed a decaying line of clouds over the prairie towards Loveland necessitating a serious detour and slow climb out, otherwise my speed would have been much better. Fun flight.
