A strong forecast over a big area lead to the creation of an ambitious plan for a 2700K flight. We launched before sunrise into strong and blue conditions and were quickly speeding south towards our first turn. The first 3 legs were fast and easy resulting in completing 1000K before noon. Thoughts of completing 3000K quickly evaporated as conditions turned unstable and the wave collapsed around us on the south end of leg 3. What was believed to be a conservative early turn back to the north turned into a desperate dash as conditions continued to deteriorate. A small patch of wave still working off a little peak enabled us to climb and finally reach better conditions. Conditions at the north end of leg 4 were also starting to deteriorate so another early turn was made. Back to the south we were pleasantly surprised to find good wave again allowing us to extend the leg. Tired and cold from spending most of the day at FL250, and satisfied with our second 2500+K flight in 3 days we elected to quit a little early, landing just after sunset.
Nav and strobe lights for flight during civil twilight.
NOTAM in effect for flight above FL195.
Thank you to Mendoza and Ezeiza centers for the great ATC support, SkySight for yet another great forecast, and to the awesome Tito Soaring Team.
