After a pre-sunrise launch into really promising conditions, we were quickly heading north at FL230. But the conditions were strange with the primary located really far downwind, at times over the foothills of the Inyos. Near Lone Pine where the wave is typically the strongest it turned weak and then into strong sink. Went from FL230 to 4500 in just a few minutes. Made the costly mistake of pushing north expecting it to get better. The price was an engine start. Turned at Bishop due to the 70+kt headwind making further progress north painfully slow. Rest of the flight was interesting and easy with the weird conditions now mapped out.

Lights for civil twilight flying. Sage 2 clearance for the R-2508 complex. LOA with Oakland Center for flight level access.
